Advantages of Sliding Windows

Why customers choose sliding systems for their homes

  • Space saving — sash doesn't swing inward, furniture can be placed right up to the window.
  • Wide aperture — maximum light and air access, panoramic views.
  • Easy to use — smooth sliding even for large sashes.
  • Excellent thermal insulation — modern HST and PSK systems ensure airtightness.
  • Security — multi-point locks and anti-burglar hardware.

Types of Sliding Systems

Choose the optimal system for your home

Will a house with sliding windows be warm in winter?

Absolutely. We use modern systems with multi-contour seals. For residential spaces, we recommend the "warm" Kömmerling or Rehau series, as well as Schüco aluminum systems with thermal breaks. They offer the same airtightness and thermal insulation as standard solid walls, eliminating drafts and freezing.

Which material is better: plastic (PVC) or aluminum?

Depends on the size of the opening. Veka, Rehau, or WDS (PVC) profiles are ideal for warm loggias and standard terrace access doors—they offer the best balance of price and heat.' If you need floor-to-ceiling panoramic glazing over 3 meters wide, we recommend rigid aluminum systems from Cortizo or Schüco, which can support heavy double-glazed windows.

What are PSK and HS portals and what's the difference?

These are opening types. The PSK (parallel sliding) system first tilts and then slides to the side—an excellent choice for apartments and small openings based on Kömmerling or WDS profiles. The HS (lift and slide) system is a premium system (often Cortizo/Schüco): the sash lifts and slides almost silently. Ideal for huge openings without thresholds.

How reliable is the sliding mechanism with frequent use?

Sliding systems are designed for tens of thousands of opening cycles. Our windows use reinforced hardware designed specifically for heavy sashes. Even a massive door weighing 200–300 kg (typical of Schüco or Veka) opens with a light movement of the hand, does not sag, and lasts for years.

Are such large windows safe? Are they difficult to break?

We put safety first. Our portals use tempered glass or laminated glass, which is extremely difficult to break. Furthermore, profiles from Rehau, Cortizo, and other brands are equipped with burglar-resistant fittings with mushroom-shaped pins, making unauthorized entry virtually impossible.

Do sliding windows really save space?

Yes, this is their main ergonomic advantage. Unlike hinged doors, which require room to swing (opening radius), sliding doors move within the frame. This allows you to place furniture right up against the window and maximize the usable space of the room.

Where Sliding Windows Are Used

  • Terrace or balcony exit — wide passage without threshold.
  • Panoramic glazing — maximum light in the living room.
  • Winter gardens — connecting home with nature.
  • Verandas and gazebos — wind protection while preserving the view.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Sliding Windows

Are sliding windows warm?

Yes, modern PSK and HST systems made of PVC provide excellent thermal insulation thanks to multi-chamber profile and quality seals. They are suitable for year-round use.

What is the maximum size of a sliding window?

Lift-and-slide HST systems allow apertures up to 6 meters wide and up to 2.7 meters high. Sash weight can reach 400 kg.

Can a mosquito screen be installed?

Yes, special sliding mosquito screens are installed for sliding windows, which move along a separate track.

How secure are sliding windows?

Sliding systems are equipped with multi-point locks and can be fitted with RC2 class anti-burglar hardware. Tempered and laminated glass units are also available.

Ready to spec your windows?

Use the 3D configurator to size up your windows and see a fair market price. Or compare the leading PVC and aluminium brands side by side.
