Which Door Is Right for You?
Match the door to the opening it lives in, not just to the Uw number.
Security comes first, thermal second. Filter by brand if you have one for your windows (keeps the look consistent), then sort by Uw ascending. Ask the quote to be priced with at least RC2 hardware and a warm-house panel.
Look at: Geneo Door, 88 Puerta, Millennium Plus 80.
On a corridor or stairwell, thermal matters less and security/acoustic matter more. Sort by sound (dB). The panel choice dominates here too — laminated glass panel for stairwell noise.
Look at: Synego Door, 76 Puerta, AluClip Puerta.
Often these are not "doors" at all but tilt-and-turn windows extending to the floor. For our purposes — same profile family as your windows is the right pick, just in the door variant. Filter by your window brand.
Look at: Euro-Design 70 Door, Brillant-Design 70 Door.
Heating losses dominate. Sort Uw ascending and pick from the top. With a Passivhaus-grade panel, even premium profiles like Geneo Door reach Ud ~ 0.7 W/m²K. Worth every euro if you're heating off-grid.
Look at: Geneo Door, 88 Puerta, Millennium Plus 80.
FAQ
Door Comparison FAQ
What security class should I pick?
RC2 is the practical floor for a Spanish home — it stops a casual burglar with screwdriver, pliers and a small crowbar (3 minutes resistance). RC3 demands power-tool resistance and is the right choice for ground floors, isolated homes or commercial entrances. RC4+ is for jewellers and similar. The class is a hardware choice, not the profile, so the same profile can come in different classes.
The Uw on this table — is that the door or the profile?
It's the profile only (Uf in the spec sheet). A real installed door — profile + panel + glass cut-out + handle — usually shows a higher Ud value. The shift can be 0.1–0.4 W/m²K, dominated by the panel fill. For a binding number ask for the EN 14351-1 Ud declaration of the configuration you're buying.
How much extra is a "warm-house" panel?
Roughly €150–€300 over a standard 30 mm panel. Pays back in about 5 winters on a north-facing front door in central Spain, faster in the north. For a south-facing door with good awning, the energy gain is small — spend the budget on a better lock instead.
PVC, aluminium or hybrid for the front door?
PVC is warmer and cheaper. Aluminium has slimmer sightlines, larger possible openings and a tougher look. The "hybrid" route (AluClip Puerta, Millennium with aluminium overlay) gives you PVC thermals with an aluminium exterior — popular for villas with contemporary facades. For pure thermal performance, full PVC wins.
Does a thicker door give better sound insulation?
Indirectly. A thicker profile takes a thicker panel, and the panel mass is what stops sound. A 60 mm warm-house panel is about 4 dB quieter than a 30 mm standard. For an apartment door on a stairwell, this is the single best upgrade you can make.
How should I use this table?
Decide use case first (house front, apartment, balcony), then filter brand if your windows are already from one. Sort Uw ascending and shortlist the top 3–4. Open each detail page to check available security classes and panel options before requesting a quote.
